I Left My Job at Traveloka
Posted on 12/9/2025
Hey.
As some of you may have noticed from my Instagram updates, I left Traveloka last week after a 9-year tenure. My last position was Engineering Manager, in charge of both frontend and backend teams at Flights BU.
No, I wasn't laid off ;)
I wanted to have a break, and learn things I didn't have time for when I was still busy selling flight tickets. This includes economics, statistics, and systems programming. But, most importantly, I'm starting a business, albeit a conventional one!
Having near-zero income is terrifying, but at the same time, exciting. Luckily, I saved up and have at least a few years of runway. For me, this is a much-needed challenge as I have been sitting in my comfort zone for too long.
To be clear, it's not that working at Traveloka wasn't challenging. In fact, it's the complete opposite. However, I lost interest in solving those challenges and wanted new ones that can trigger my survival instinct.
Alright, moving on…
I'm now doing consulting/mentorship — a paid one. If you are:
- A software engineer looking to transition into a senior or staff-level role by leveling up their system design, technical leadership, and communication skills, or
- An engineering leader looking to implement or improve efficient operational processes (e.g., incident response, on-call rotations, blameless post-mortems).
I may know a thing or two, and we can definitely exchange notes! Feel free to look at my past experiences and see if they are relevant to you. As a mentor, I may not have direct answers to your problems or questions, but I will certainly help you find your own answers.
If you're interested, feel free to drop me a message on one of my socials. You can find all of them here.
Terima Kasih 🇮🇩
